A proposed Dollar General store for Wylliesburg is currently in the due diligence phase, according to Dollar General Public Relations Representative Angela Petkovic.

“This means we are reviewing the opportunity to add a new store in the area, but we have not committed to doing so just yet,” Petkovic said. “Based on our current timeline, we anticipate to have a final decision on this by mid spring.”

A joint public hearing between the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors and the Charlotte County Planning Commission regarding a conditional use permit for the proposed Wylliesburg store was held in August at the County Administration Building.

During that time, a conditional use permit application for the property said the store is proposed to be constructed beside the Tastee Freez in Wylliesburg, located at 87 Hebron Church Road.

Although no one spoke at the hearing, Charlotte County Planner and Purchasing Agent Monica Elder said the application for the permit was first received June 20 from Par 5 Development Group, LLC.

“When choosing store locations, meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority. The company looks for places where we can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice,” said Petkovic. “We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three to five mile radius, or 10 minute drive. We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration.”

Petkovic said the proposed store could employ between 6-10 employees, based on the needs of the individual store.

During the public hearing, Par 5 Development Group Engineer Michael Lynch said the proposed location will contain a 6,300-square-foot parking lot with 32 parking spaces and a loading spot for tractor trailers.

Additionally, Elder said at that time, a new private septic and well would need to be installed.

Also during that time, Par 5’s Assistant Development Manager Zac Ivey said the proposed Wylliesburg building and signage would be the same as the Dollar General that’s in Drakes Branch.

“The developer and engineering firm are working to finalize their construction plans for the Wylliesburg Dollar General,” said Elder. “They anticipate that construction will occur in March or April.”
