The Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) men’s basketball team split a pair of home games over the weekend, taking the three-time defending USA National Postgrad champions to an 11-8 overall record this season.

Despite being shorthanded with several players missing due to sickness and injury, SVCC fought back from a 107-89 loss to Bryant & Stratton MIT on Saturday to top visiting Stillwater Christian 111-102 on Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers fell behind early against Stillwater but tied the score at 20 on a three-point play by freshman Justin Williams at the 10-minute, 12-second mark of the first half.

That play ignited SVCC as it went on a 21-5 run to take a 41-25 lead on another Williams three-point play at the 5:06 mark.

Stillwater fought back late in the half, but freshman Naquan Jordan hit four free throws in the final 30 seconds to give the Panthers a 53-45 halftime lead.

SVCC extended the lead back to double figures on a three-pointer by sophomore K.J. Reagans at the 16:24 mark of the second half.

Stillwater tied the score at 79, but freshman Ike Brandon scored four straight points to give the Panthers an 83-79 lead, and then they cruised down the stretch.

Williams led SVCC with 25 points and 13 rebounds, while freshman Trey Brandon scored 22 points, and Reagans tallied 21 points and added seven rebounds.
