The Charlotte County Wildcats softball team played in a tournament in Charlottesville on Oct. 14 and 15, and though they did not win it, they returned home with a 3-2 record for the weekend. They played three games Oct. 14 and two games Oct. 15 when the tournament transitioned to a single-elimination format.

The Wildcats lost their first game Oct. 14 but still got some good offensive production. Sydney Mason produced a triple, and Sarah Mason recorded a hit.

In their next game, the Wildcats won 14-1. Sydney Mason hit a pair of singles, and Kaylee Buckler registered one single and four stolen bases. Mason and Tiara Hurt combined to strike out six batters in two innings.

During the Wildcats’ last Saturday game, Tiara Hurt, Ella Schreckengost and Gracie Pascuita each singled once, Morgan Curtis singled twice, Amy Grissom doubled and Ashley Nelson hit a home run to their team win 9-7.

In their first game Sunday, the Wildcats were victorious, 7-1. Hurt and Buckler each recorded a hit, and Buckler stole eight bases.

Though the Wildcats lost their next game, Sydney Mason had two hits, and Hurt had one. Courtney Harmon and Cate Curtis each had two RBIs for the tournament.

The team’s coaches expressed pride in how their players have improved with every tournament.
