STEPS Head Start in Charlotte Courthouse held a flag ceremony in observance of Patriot’s Day, Sept. 11, “The Sherriff’s Department sent two representatives, Officer Eddie Scruggs and Lt. Melissa Tharpe.”The release cited the officers raised our flag half-staff, recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sung “Our Country Tis of Thee” with the children. “Tharpe briefly discussed with the children why we pay tribute to the many men and women that lost their life on Sept. 11,” officials said in the release. “A member of the Red House Fire Department, Jason Marston, also came out to help with the flag, Pledge of Allegiance and sing with the children.” The release cited he showed the children his fire truck and briefly discussed fire safety. In addition, parents came out to support their children and take part in the ceremony. We commend these community leaders and parents for their leadership.
