The Randolph-Henry High School (R-H) junior varsity football team is 0-5 so far this season, but its consistently outstanding effort is yielding results, and the Statesmen fell only 14-8 in their road game Thursday against Central Lunenburg.

“Our team plays hard,” R-H Head Coach Robbie Mason said. “I am proud of them for that. I know it’s tough not getting wins but they do give me all they got for four quarters, and that’s all I can ask of them. We are coming off our best game so I am hoping that we can build off that and win some ballgames in the future.”

He complimented the Statesmen defense for its performance against the Chargers’ potent running game and praised his team’s offense for finally finding a rhythm and controlling the ball for a majority of the game.

Some key standouts for Randolph-Henry have included fullback Chris Redd and quarterback Logan Lewis.

Mason said Redd “has been getting better each week running the ball,” and Lewis “has never played the (quarterback) position before, so it is good to see him learn the offense quick and get better at the position each week.”

In the four games left, the coach said he hopes to see some wins.
