Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity girls volleyball team is off to a 4-3 start, and the junior varsity (JV) squad broke through for its first win last week.

The varsity Lady Statesmen have had success at home against Prince Edward, Central Lunenburg, and Buckingham County high schools and on the road at Bluestone High School. They have given up one hard-fought home match against Nottoway County High School and experienced road losses to Amelia County and Goochland high school.

In the last six matches, the seniors have been leading the team in all areas. Hannah Pasciuta is leading in set assists with 132, Kierra Jones is leading in kills with 27 total, while Annie Sandridge is a close second with 23 kills. Anna-Grace Cary is leading the team with a 100 percent serving average in two of the last six matches, and Anna Pasciuta is leading the team with 137 serves received in the last six matches.

The JV Lady Statesmen lost their first six matches of the season, but Thursday they tasted victory against visiting Buckingham.

They lost the first set 25-20, but Morgan Lawson helped power the team to a 25-15 win in the second set. Lawson and Sydney Williams were key to the 15-12 third-set win.
