Since the start of the Drakes Branch Red Cross Blood Mobile in February 2011 by the Mount Calvary UMC, 38 blood drives have been held, collecting 896 pints of blood.
This equates to 1,792 lives saved or extended and nearly 18,000 friends and family grateful for those who donated and assisted with the drives, according to information provided by the American Red Cross.
The recent drive in August had 32 pints successfully donated. This was the second highest with the highest being 36 pints in August 2014.
The August drive featured Mrs. Francis Clark, who completed her 18th gallon of blood donated.
After she donated blood, she enjoyed the refreshments.
“We appreciate her support and the support of the community in this worthwhile project,” officials said in a press release.
According to The Red Cross, each pint of blood creates at least two products — one of red cells and one of plasma.
Additionally, each patient received one of the 1,792 blood products has at least 10 friends or families that are grateful for the blood donations.
