As Randolph-Henry High School’s (R-H) varsity golf team makes its 20th consecutive appearance in the regional tournament this week, it is important to acknowledge the extraordinary achievement that preceded its winning the James River District tournament last week — it won its 18th straight regular season district title.

Statesmen Head Coach Kelly Powell said that this happened because “the R-H Golf team has really worked hard and played with a lot of confidence this year.”

A true team effort led to Randolph-Henry’s 25-0 regular season record for 2017.

“We have had great leadership from our seniors, and every player has contributed to our success,” Powell said.

He expressed special appreciation to all of the 2017 team members, including Dalton Barksdale, Eli Moore, Nathan Towery, Evan Mason, Logan Newcomb, Skylar Lacks, Larkin Jackson, Austin Shook, Matthew Taylor, Brian Williams, Caleb Shook, Brenden Francisco and Jordan Colbert.

In R-H’s final match at their home course, Briery Country Club, it won with a team score of 164, topping Goochland High School’s 170 and Central Lunenburg High School’s 183.

Jackson led his team with a 40, Lacks and Mason each shot a 41 and Newcomb produced a 42.

The Statesmen pushed their overall record to 26-0 on Sept. 19 when they won the district tournament by 38 strokes, and they competed in the Class 2 Region A tournament at Kinderton Country Club in Clarksville on Tuesday.
