Lady Statesmen open with win on court

Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity girls volleyball team started its 2017 campaign with a win Aug. 29, topping host Bluestone, 25-17, 27-29, 24-26, 25-16, 15-13.
“I am so pleased at how the girls played together and ultimately pulled out the win,” Lady Statesmen Head Coach Nikki Elder said. “I am excited to watch them continue to improve and grow throughout the rest of the season.”
Randolph-Henry middle hitters Kierra Jones and Morgan Mason led their team with eight kills apiece, while setters Hannah Pasciuta and Michaela Miller handed out 19 and 21 assists, respectively.
Aiding the team’s defensive effort was Anna Pasciuta, who received 39 serves in her first match as libero.
In the service game, Anna-Grace Cary recorded a team-high five aces.
After hosting Prince Edward on Tuesday, the Lady Statesmen visit Amelia on Thursday at 7 p.m.
