Did you know that private water supplies like wells and springs are unregulated? According to a press release from Virginia Cooperative Extension, “it is the responsibility of the homeowner to regularly test water quality, maintain the water system and address any problems.”
Affordable, confidential water testing and education will be offered through Virginia Cooperative Extension and the Charlotte County Extension Office.
“Pick up your kits at the Charlotte County Extension Office from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on May 8, and plan to drop off your samples on May 10 between 7:30-9 a.m. at the Extension Office,” officials said in the release.
“Participation is voluntary and confidential. Water samples collected by participating homeowners will be analyzed for 14 parameters, including bacteria, metals, nitrate and hardness at a cost of $55. Results, water system care and maintenance information will be shared on an appointment basis on June 13 between 2-5 p.m.”
