nd field meet at Fork Union Military Academy last Wednesday was the occasion for a variety of Randolph-Henry High School athletes to shine, including junior Nadya Pettus, who continued her winning ways.
She won the girls 100-meter dash and placed third in the girls 200-meter dash, as the Lady Statesmen and Statesmen took on Cumberland High School, Nottoway High School and Fork Union.
For R-H, “many athletes had good performances, placing in multiple events,” Randolph-Henry Head Track and Field Coach Joe Freeland said. “Five team members set personal bests in each of their events while placing.”
In the boys shot put, Statesmen sophomore John Chaney placed second, and he was also fifth in the boys discus throw.
Lady Statesmen freshman Emma Silver claimed third in the girls discus throw and fifth in the girls shot put.
Junior Joey Hengeli took third in the boys long jump.
In both the girls 400-meter dash and the girls 800-meter run, sophomore Hanna Goldman placed fourth.
Also placing fourth was sophomore Anisha Marable in the girls 300-meter hurdles.
Randolph-Henry travels to Prince Edward County High School on Wednesday for a meet set to start at 4:30 p.m. It will be an important opportunity for R-H track and field fans.
“Come see the athletes perform in the nearest meet of the year,” Freeland said. “Admission is free.”
