The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a suspect in connection to a reported bomb threat at Charter Oaks in Charlotte Court House on Friday.

According a statement released by the sheriff’s office, when a deputy arrived on scene he noticed gas had leaked from one of the vans.

“(In addition), there was what looked to be the word ‘bomb’ written on a piece of paper lying in the front seat of one of the vans,” police said.

Police said gas had been stolen from two of the vans and the third had a hole punched in the gas tank.

Charter Oaks and Head Start Learning Center were evacuated, police said.

Virginia State Police were called and a bomb investigator cleared the vans. Police say the Charlotte Court House Fire Department and a hazmat company from Lynchburg cleaned the area.

A bomb threat was reported to the sheriff’s office Thursday threatening the Charlotte Courthouse.

Anyone with information should call the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office at (434) 542-4151.
