The outdoor track and field season began for Randolph-Henry High School on March 22 at Goochland High School, and several Statesmen produced standout performances despite the lineup lacking much veteran talent this season.
“Now that everyone has a starting point, our goal is for each athlete to improve and set a new personal best each time they compete,” R-H Head Coach Joe Freeland said.
In the opening meet, Nadya Pettus tied her school-record time in winning the girls 100-meter dash. Jacob Barker placed second in the boys 3200-meter run, beating his personal record by 46 seconds. George Sandridge placed fourth in the boys 800-meter run, and first-year team member Joey Hengeli took fourth in the boys long jump.
R-H’s boys and girls teams visited Nottoway High School on Tuesday and return to action later in April.
