In 1977, at the request of Wylliesburg Library Board Member Clara Duffer, the board applied for and was approved funding by the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors to begin providing library service in Bacon District.

“Service began in the current building in the spring of 1978, in a tiny space that is now where the sink and refrigerator are,” library officials said in a press release. “The first librarian was Mrs. Evelyn Royster.”

“Betty Baughan replaced Mrs. Royster in 1985, and for many years Betty wished for a larger building with room for more books and computers for patrons to use. Finally, in March 2002, an agreement was reached with the owner for use of the entire building.”

With the help of the Charlotte County Library Board, a group of citizens came together and started planning ways to raise money to remodel the building and get it ready to be used as a library. “After numerous fundraisers, the community members had enough money to begin remodeling the building. Renovation began in 2002 and in … 2003, the grand opening of a beautiful, new Wylliesburg Community Library was celebrated.”
