The Randolph-Henry High School varsity girls basketball team suffered back-to-back lopsided losses last week, but in both contests, they were undaunted in the second half, showing fight and improving their play.
The Lady Statesmen lost 56-21 to host Buckingham County High School on Thursday, falling behind 34-7 by halftime.
“We had 21 turnovers in the first half and only five in the second,” R-H Head Coach D.J. Jack said. “That shows me, as a coach, we can play when we want to play. We just have to play for 32 minutes instead of 16 minutes.”
Teyha Pugh led the team with 11 points to go with four rebounds.
On Friday, the Lady Statesmen lost 49-25 to host Bluestone High School, falling behind 28-6 by halftime, but recovering, again, in the second half.
“We only had 10 turnovers in 32 minutes,” Jack said. “That is the least turnovers since we started playing back in November.”
Alexis Wilmoth led the team with eight points.
