Susan Oliver Sykes

Susan Oliver Sykes, blessed age of 100 years, peacefully departed this mortal life Monday, December 12, 2016 at Sentara Woodview Nursing Home in South Boston. She was born on February 23, 1916 to the late William Thomas and Carrie Thrower Oliver in Mecklenburg County.

At an early age, she accepted Christ and became a member of St. Douglass Baptist Church in Boydton. In 1934, she moved to East Orange, NJ where she worked and was an active member in church. After relocating back home two years ago, she joined Shiloh Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Martha Oliver, Edna Elam, Mary Oliver, Nellie Thornton, and Hattie Williams and two brothers, Albert and Clarence Oliver. She leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Bertha Criss, East Orange, NJ; nieces and nephews, Wallicia (Jerry) Lacks, Audrey (Earnest) Robertson of Clover, Brenda Arrington, Hampton, Carnell (Nancy) Elam, Danville, Ulysses (Cheryl) Elam, Pamplin, Clifton (Annie) Elam, Keysville, Shirley (Allen) Fields, South Orange, NJ, Ronnie (Alice) Williams, Kenneth Williams and Madeline Oliver, Newark, NJ; many great nieces and nephews, and many other close and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life Service was held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 17 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Drakes Branch with interment in the church cemetery.
