High Bridge Trail State Park will offer two “First Day” hikes on Jan. 1. One is an easy, 1-mile hike, the other more adventurous. Participants should meet at the Camp Paradise parking area for both hikes. At 2 p.m., a ranger will guide a short easy hike across High Bridge and back.

At 3 p.m. a more strenuous 2-mile hike will take participants to a rarely visited part of the park along an abandoned rail line constructed to divert traffic when High Bridge was out of service for maintenance in 1870. This hike varies from easy to strenuous in places. Strollers are not well suited to the terrain.

The Friends of High Bridge Trail State Park will be have refreshments and a warm campfire.
