On Saturday, Oct. 29, the town of Drakes Branch had a “Recycle” booth at the Drakes Branch Halloween Festival and collected 66 bags of plastic. The official America Recycles Day celebration was Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Events can be scheduled at any time during the fall leading into the official day. It is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.

This was a good time to educate and spread the word on the importance of recycling and recycling correctly.

This year, Keep America Beautiful hopes everyone will help in its mission to promote and spread awareness of what can be recycled, and how to recycle it correctly.

On Saturday, Dec. 17, the town will have a “Recycle” booth at the Charlotte County Farmer’s Market final Holiday Market of the season in Drakes Branch. If you haven’t put out your recyclables lately for our weekly Wednesday pick-ups, this will give you the opportunity to clean them out before the upcoming holidays. So bring your plastic and aluminum by the pavilion while doing some last minute shopping from the vendors.

We will also have an information table with handouts, balloons, bracelets, free bird feeders, etc., and certificates for those who bring in their recyclables. There will also be available for purchase a limited amount of the Drakes Branch Christmas ornaments if you didn’t purchase one last year, like the one sent to the Governor’s Mansion. You may also place an order for one to have in time for Christmas. See you there and thank you for recycling!
