Welcoming signers; don’t be afraid

Dear Editor,

At the July board of supervisors meeting, Ludy Collie and I informed the supervisors that close to 800 taxpayers or citizens of Charlotte County had signed a petition. The actual count is 803.

To date, no action has been taken by the supervisors. I am very saddened by that.

After the August meeting, Averett Jones, of The Southside Messenger, pressed me to show the names of the people who signed and to let the supervisors go over the names.

I told him I would not, but would allow an unbiased person (perhaps a minister) to recount the names if I was not trusted to count.

Jones also claimed some felt forced into signing. I do not believe that. However, if there is anyone who signed that would like their name removed they can contact Ludy Collie or me at citizens4charlotte@hotmail.com or We the People, P.O. Box 73, Wylliesburg, VA 23976.

Also, to anyone who didn’t sign because they were afraid, or didn’t have the opportunity to do so, please also contact us and we will see that a petition gets to you.
