Picture of the Week2

Recently, Bacon District Elementary School recently held a nine-day summer reading and math camp. The theme in the library was “Make A Splash — READ.” Allyson Watkins, left in both photos, the librarian, read books about water and performed activities associated with water. Children ages pre-kindergarten and kindergarten had to keep a reading log. First-fifth grade students read and took Accelerated Reader tests. A trip for the child and his or her parent to Wet’N Wild, Emerald Point in Greensboro, N.C., was the incentive for both age groups. Over 300 books were read to the younger children in the nine-day period. Fifty-one students took and passed 322 tests during the same time with an average of 86.7 percent correct on the tests. Brody Lipscomb, at right in right photo, a rising kindergartener, won for the first age group and Kyra Valania, at right in left photo, an upcoming second-grader, won for the second age group.
