Organized athletic opportunities for adults in the area could be on the way.

Eric Goode is aiming to get the Southside Virginia Athletic Association (SVAA) started as an athletic outlet for anyone ages 18 and older in Charlotte and the surrounding counties.

“At this point, we’re just trying to find interested individuals who are willing to help with the creation of the Southside Virginia Athletic Association,” he said.

The association is examining the possibility of offering sports including football, basketball, softball and soccer.

“We’re looking at football for either the spring or the fall, depending on how we could actually find locations to accommodate us,” Goode said. “Basketball would be either in the summer or the winter. Softball would definitely be in the summer, and soccer would be either in the spring or in the fall.”

He said the association is in process of scouting out fields and locations where SVAA sporting events could be held.

For Goode, the potential benefit behind the association is obvious.

“I feel like that it can bring the community closer by having people interact with different groups of people, because sports is a unifying endeavor in and of itself,” he said.

“And it’s just for good clean fun for adults, because now we don’t really have too much that can bring adults together in this community.”
