Essay winner announced

At the June meeting of the H. A. Carrington chapter 1055, United Daughters of the Confederacy, the historical essay winner for the chapter contest was announced for 2016. Chapter President Patt Graves presented C. C. Foster, of Keysville, with a certificate and a cash award for his outstanding essay, “Nina, the spy doll.” For the event, the organization planned a chapter pizza party. The chapter also sponsored Foster’s essay in the Virginia Division contest and was pleased to learn that he had won first place in the state, also. On hand to make the presentation was Virginia Division Honorary President Fran Towerman. Towerman also serves as Virginia Division Historical Work with Students chairman and made the trip from Richmond to present a state certificate, an award check and a personal gift to Foster.
