The sounds and spectacle of patriotic celebration will fill the streets of Clarksville when the eighth annual Independence Day Parade steps off onto Virginia Avenue at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 4. The parade is sponsored by The Clarksville Ruritans.

Organizers are hoping that antique tractors and trucks from the Halifax Heritage Festival will again be on display, as well as vehicles from The Model A Club and The Shriner’s Motor Corps. A 50 by 30 foot American flag, made by Annin Flagmakers in South Boston, will be flown across Virginia Avenue, suspended between two Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative bucket trucks. A thousand small flags will be distributed to add color to the festivities.

Virginia Avenue will be closed from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. from the bridge to Ninth Street.

Applications for entrants and additional information about the parade are available at www.clarksvilleva.com. Anyone wishing to enter horses must contact Allen Griffin at (434) 374-2512 or at alroseg@gmail.com.
