Miss Vergie Lena Bacon, 60, of Brooklyn, NY and formerly of Fort Mitchell, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at NYU Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. 

Miss Bacon was born in Fort Mitchell, VA on May 7, 1955 to the late John Henry and  Eloise Virginia Hayes Bacon. At an early age, she joined Mount Mitchell Baptist Church, Drakes Branch, VA and was a graduate of Central Senior High School in Victoria, VA. She furthered her education at SVCC in Keysville, VA, and upon graduation relocated to New York, where she was formerly employed by the American Mayflower Life Insurance Company and the New York Times.

Cherishing her memories are one sister, Gwendolyn Bacon of Fort Mitchell, VA; one brother, Albert Hayes (Shirley) of Kenbridge, VA; two nieces, Vonda Smith (Wilfred) of Ruther Glen, VA and Alesia Hayes of Kenbridge, VA; one great-nephew; one great-niece; one grand-niece; one aunt, Inez Bacon of Brooklyn, NY; two dedicated cousins, Theodore Hayes and Thelma Staten and vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services for Miss Vergie Lena Bacon will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Mount Mitchell Baptist Church, Drakes Branch, VA with Rev. Fran Jackson, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M.
