The Randolph-Henry High School junior varsity softball team is coming off a recent 1-4 stretch.

The Lady Statesmen hosted Goochland on Thursday and lost narrowly, 3-1.

Scoring her team’s only run, Leighan Payne hit a hard line drive up the middle for a single. She successfully stole second and Chelsey Aliff slap bunted.

Due to an overthrow at first, Aliff was safe, and Payne was able to score.

On April 26, Randolph-Henry dealt visiting Bluestone a 7-6 defeat.

Cheyanne Newcomb was leadoff batter for the Lady Statesmen and was able to get on base all four times at bat. Anna Pasciuta, batting second, was able to not only move Newcomb around each time at bat, but also scored three out of four times.

Combined, they accounted for all of Randolph-Henry’s runs scored. Hallie Watson threw 11 strikeouts for the game.

Watson and Payne got the only two hits for the Lady Statesmen on April 25 when they fell 10-0 to host Appomattox County.

Randolph-Henry (7-6) visits Amelia County on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
