The Spring South Central District meeting, held in Chatham on April 12, was hosted by Gretna, Maude Clement, of Chatham, and Staunton River garden clubs. There were 92 ladies from all over the district in attendance.

Marilyn Eanes-Shorter, South Central District president, presided over the meeting and presented Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs President Janice Clem with a beautiful framed Monarch Butterfly.

Eanes-Shorter stated, “Our VFGC President has a real passion for saving the Monarch Butterfly. Monarch Butterflies are finding it more and more challenging to survive. Milkweeds and nectar sources are declining as developments and the use of herbicides increase. Planting Monarch Way Stations in schools is one way that we can help protect and preserve the beautiful Monarch Butterfly for future generations.”

The very intricate embroidery work was done by Jean Crews of Brookneal.
