Raiders fall to Statesmen girls tennis in match

On Thursday, the Randolph-Henry High School girls’ tennis team dominated Courthouse Conference 37 rivals, the Appomattox County High School Lady Raiders, with an 8-1 win. At the No. 1 singles seed, Emily Giuliano forfeited to Meredith Feinman of the Lady Statesmen. At No. 2, Couper Webb defeated the Lady Raiders’ Lauren Lawson 8-4. At No. 3, Alena Latysheva of Randolph-Henry defeated Mason Canada 8-3. No. 4 Emily Toombs topped Appomattox County’s Alexis Depalmer 8-2. Lady Statesmen No. 5 seed Helen Lin came from behind to win 8-6 against Ilyana Servis, and Tyler Whirley, at No. 6, fought hard but lost to Destine Berkley of the Lady Raiders 8-2.

In doubles action, No. 1 seed Feinman/Webb were on fire with an 8-0 win over Giuliano/Lawson. No. 2 seed Toombs/Lin were also in top form with an 8-2 win over Canada/Lawson, and the No. 3 Randolph-Henry team of Latysheva and Morgan Mason was strong with an 8-3 win over Servis/Berkley.

In exhibition play, Eliza Walker and Grace Reynolds teamed up for an 8-3 doubles win. Walker won her singles 8-4.
