Softball edges Amelia 3-2

On Thursday, the Randolph-Henry High School junior varsity softball team edged Amelia 3-2.

The lead-off batter for Amelia scored in the first inning. Amelia went the next four innings scoreless, with Hallie Watson striking out seven batters, Sarah Wilmoth making plays at second base and some outfield fly balls being caught by Shelby Meyer and Alyssa Rapole. 

Amelia scored one run in the sixth, putting the team ahead 2-1. In the bottom of the sixth, Hannah Pasciuta led off with a double for the Statesmen. Leighan Payne followed with a stand up triple, scoring Pasciuta.

AnnaGrace Cary was next with a hit back to the pitcher, who threw Payne out going home, leaving Cary safe on first. Later that inning, Cheyanne Newcomb hit a double scoring Cary, making the score 2-2. The seventh inning was scoreless for both teams.

With one out and runner on second, Hallie Watson hit the ball to the fence, allowing Payne to score, which gave R-H the win.

R-H will host Liberty Christian Academy at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
