A positive parenting seminar presented by Beginnings Family Enrichment will be coming to the Drakes Branch Municipal Building on Saturday.
Monique Williams, a native of Drakes Branch, will facilitate the seminar to provide caregivers the knowledge to successfully understand children’s behavior and how the caregiver’s behavior can influence their actions.
“As a single mother, I have encountered my own ups and downs in parenting,” Williams said. “I recognize that I am not perfect, but I work to be the best that I can be for my son and me.”
Williams said during the seminar, interactive activities will be used to provide an overview of positive discipline techniques and nurturing parent programs.
Williams currently hold a master’s degree in human services counseling, marriage and family and criminal justice.
She brings over 10 years of experience of child and family systems work to the table.
“There is a great need for more parent education and parent coaching in many systems, from education to child welfare and criminal/juvenile justice, especially in rural areas like Charlotte County,” Williams said.
Throughout her career, Williams said she has provided intensive in-home counseling, school-based interventions, clinical coordination for youth, parent education and interventions to at-risk youth and families.
“What I want people to take away from this seminar is the fact that parenting is all about acknowledging our mistakes and finding ways to manage our frustrations.”
The seminar will be held at the Drakes Branch Municipal Building from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The cost to attend is $10 per person; however, a reduced parenting partners rate of $15 may be applied to couples, friends, relatives or colleagues registered and attending together.
