Varsity Lady Statesmen fall to Prince Edward

On Monday night, the Randolph-Henry Lady Statesmen’s varsity basketball team put up a tough fight, but fell to the Prince Edward Eagles, 42-35.

“The girls played a hard ballgame tonight,” said head coach Michael Goode.

“They came up a little short, but we’re steadily learning and getting better. That’s what it’s about.”

In the first quarter, the Lady Statesmen scored a total of seven points, trailing slightly behind Prince Edward’s 11.

The third quarter saw the Lady Statesmen trailing only by a point, with a score of 26-25. However, the Eagles were able to pull away in the final quarter by gaining 16 points, compared to only 10 scored by Randolph-Henry.

The leading scorer of the night was Cymirra Shuford, bringing in a total of 12 points. Kierra Dodd and JaKya Pettus topped out the night with a score of five points each, while Adrianne Nelson and Leolivia Stanford scored four points apiece. Desheaklee Rose contributed three points to the overall score and Teyha Pugh rounded out the scored with two points.

R-H heads to Amelia on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game.
