Saxe couple celebrates 50 years together

On Dec. 19, Harvey and Barbara Harris, of Saxe, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal ceremony at the Holy Name Church of Jesus in Chase City.

In front of a host of family and friends, who traveled from as far away as Arizona, New York and Maryland, Harvey and Barbara renewed their vows and recommitted their lives and love to each other.

Troy Anthony Harris, the couple’s son and a licensed minister, served as the ceremony officiant.

Tracey Ferguson, daughter, was the matron of honor; Sylvia Gayles, daughter, was the maid of honor and youngest daughter Hope Gayles served as a bridesmaid. Grandchildren Sydney and Nora Gayles were the flower girls. Gwen Harris, the couple’s daughter-in-law, directed the wedding, and granddaughter Taylor Harris was the event coordinator. Ceremony décor was provided by Quentin Baskerville.

Following the ceremony, the Harris’ and their guests enjoyed a reception at Ernie’s Restaurant in South Boston.

Harvey and Barbara have four children, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The couple’s official anniversary date was Dec. 31.
