Fire destroys Drakes home

On Saturday, local fire departments responded to a four-alarm fire on Oak Hill Road in Drakes Branch at around 5:23 p.m.

According to Drakes Branch Fire Chief Kenny Tharpe, when volunteers arrived on scene, flames were coming out of the roof and heavy smoke was visible.

He said the fire was contained at one end of the house.

Tharpe said when the fire initially started, occupants were reported to be inside the home; however, everyone exited safely with no injuries.

The blaze was a result of a possible electrical malfunction, according to Tharpe.

Volunteers were on the scene of the fire for approximately two hours.

Fire departments from Drakes Branch, Charlotte Court House, Bacon District and Meherrin responded to the scene.
