The Randolph-Henry cross-country teams hosted their final home meet of the season against Bluestone, Goochland and Prince Edward last week.
The girls team finished third, while the boys placed second. Before what was to be the most exciting and competitive race of the year, the coaching staff took time to recognize the Runnin’ Statesmen seniors and their parents before the last home meet of their careers. Adrianne Nelson, Megan Garrett, Peter Wendelin, Greyson Pettus, Brycen Boettcher, Hunter Tuck, Josh Easter, Alex Barker, Grayson Crawford, Christian Pinchefsky and Noah Pinchefsky were honored for their years of hard work and positive representation of the R-H cross-country program.
Coach Jeff Williams said they will all be missed and the team wishes them all the best in their future endeavors.
After rolling off three consecutive victories, the boys team looked to solidify their status as a top contender in the James River District. Nasheim Pettus (second), Chris Nichols (sixth), Michael Nichols (ninth) and John Wendelin finished in the top ten for the Runnin’ Statesmen.
The girls team finished a close third behind Goochland and Bluestone, who were tied. Goochland won the tiebreaker and took the overall team victory.
Adrianne Nelson led the girls team by winning her final home meet. Megan Garrett (fifth) and Alena Latysheva (tenth) finished in the top ten for R-H.
Williams and coach Dean Schwartz were extremely excited about the performance from both teams. Mere seconds from place-to-place kept the Runnin’ Statesmen from sweeping the meet, and both coaches look forward to challenging each runner to make the necessary improvements to get the times faster in preparation for the postseason.
