Barton moves on to state championship
The season came to an end this week for most of the Randolph-Henry High golf team. The group finished third in regional play, falling just one short of moving on. In order to advance to the state tournament, teams had to finish in first or second place.
But that doesn’t mean the season is over for all members of the team. Raegan Barton won the girls Zone 8 qualifier, moving on to compete at the Girls State Championship. That’ll be held at Heritage Oaks in Harrisonburg.
“She puts so much time and effort into her game!” said Randolph-Henry Coach Eddie Pyle. “She continues to work hard and is improving.”
As for the rest of the team, they finish a season where they won both the regular season and tournament district titles. They went into regional play at 24-1 on the year. Head Coach Kelly Powell also earned his way to the 2024-25 James River District Coach of the Year title.
“Coach Powell’s dedication and leadership have made a lasting impact on the Randolph-Henry High School golf team,” said Randolph-Henry Principal Erin Davis. “(We) thank (him) for (his) commitment to our athletes and for guiding them to success both on and off the course.”
