Randolph-Henry’s Erin Davis in running for national award

In less than a month, Randolph-Henry High School will find out if its principal Erin Davis is the winner of a national award.

Davis is one of the national finalists for the Varsity Brands Spirit Award in the Principal category.

To be considered, nominees must demonstrate a strong connection between school spirit and academic achievement, support both athletics and academics, be approachable and engaging, and have an innovative approach to education.

Colleagues nominated Davis for the award. In excerpts from their nominations, colleagues described her love for Randolph-Henry High School as contagious and her energy and enthusiasm as captivating.

Her colleagues also praised her for her innovative initiatives, such as March Attendance Madness, which encourages students to attend school regularly.

“On any given day, you may see her recognizing students for receiving Positive Referrals, dancing with students to the Cupid Shuffle at a basketball game during halftime, taking part in dance contests with students at a pep rally to include a perfectly executed cartwheel for a finale. The best way to describe her leadership at Randolph-Henry High School is that Mrs. Davis is all in” noted one nomination.

Erin Davis didn’t plan to be a principal

For Davis being a school administrator is something she says she never planned to be.

However, today her love for the job is very apparent from parents and students seeing her in attendance at sporting events and other school functions to constantly posting on social media how proud she is of the Charlotte County Public Schools (CCPS) and its students.

“Without a doubt, the students are what fuel me each and every day,” Davis said. “Walking down the halls and interacting with the students energizes me and makes me excited to come to work.”

Interestingly enough, Erin Davis never planned to become a principal; instead, she wanted to be a teacher.

“From the time I attended elementary school, I always knew I wanted to become a teacher,” Davis said. “As a teenager, I found myself volunteering for things like the nursery at my church or teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. These experiences solidified for me that I wanted to work with children.

The winners of the Varsity Brands Spirit Award will be announced on June 8.
