Henry “Buzzy” Carwile

In January, a new representative for the Cullen/Red House District will take his seat among the Board of Supervisors after capturing the seat from incumbent Tony Reeves. 

Reeves had served on the board since 2020 and was running unopposed until Oct. 4 when Madisonville resident Henry “Buzzy” Carwile announced his intention to run as a response to public concern about solar development in Charlotte County, especially in the Cullen/Red House District. 

Carwile took the seat with 304 votes to Reeves’s 227.

“I understand the needs of our community and offer a vast array of qualifications that will benefit you and the county as a whole, the greatest being my love of the people and land,” Carwile said. 

Carwile said he plans to be a voice in matters that impact citizens’ daily lives: preserving farmland, elevating first responders, fostering sensible tax policies, promoting responsible industry, and supporting and maintaining successful schools. 

“Above all else, I am taking a stand against any further expansion of utility-scale solar development,” Carwile said. 

Over his lifetime, Carwile said that he has strived to implement sound and innovative agricultural practices throughout his farm, which is evidenced by receiving the Clean Water Farm Award in 2010 presented by Virginia’s Soil and Water Conservation Districts. 

For Carwile, community service will be nothing new as he spent 16 years on the Charlotte 

County School Board. Additionally, he has served as a Director and past President of the Charlotte County Farm Bureau and continues to serve as a Director at this time.
