Virginia Mildred Mills BowmanVirginia Mildred Mills Bowman, 96 of Red Oak, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25. She was born Feb. 24, 1928 in Charlotte County, and was the daughter of the late Fletcher Lee Mills Sr. and Jessie Leola Hardy Mills. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Bowman; two sons, Loyd Lee Bowman and Dale Sidney Bowman; grandson, Jonathan Bowman; and six brothers. 

Mildred is survived by her children, James Thomas “J. T.” Bowman, Jr. (Terri), Hazel Jean Bowman Smith, Don Kent Bowman (J.J.), Jesse B. “Buddy” Bowman, Linda Sue Bowman (Glen Newton) and Virginia A. Bowman; grandchildren, Nicholas Bowman, Ashley Bowman, Justin Bowman, Jackie Watson, Jamie Garner, Heather Stout, Cassie Bowman, Zachary Bowman, Lucas Bowman and Ethan Bowman; 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Douglas Mills (Dot); sister, Hazel Mills Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mildred loved her family and she enjoyed quilting, reading and her flowers. 

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home Chapel with her great-nephew, Pastor Woody Moore officiating. A private graveside service will follow at the Mills Family Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
