On Monday, May 8, the Randolph-Henry High baseball program honored six seniors. That included Andru Lee, who plans to attend Hampden-Sydney in the fall; Brayson Arrington, who will be entering the law enforcement academy after graduation; Lucas Skelton, who plans to jump into the workforce; Kevin Eames, who will attend Longwood University in the fall; Zacl Hudson, who will be going to the fire recruitment academy and Jayden Gee, who plans to attend Old Dominion University.

Each senior and their family were honored by being announced on the field. Parents received a flower from the Randolph-Henry Athletics Department and players received a frame with a jersey replica in it.

PLAYING ON SENIOR NIGHT

But after the tribute, there was still a game to play. The Statesmen hosted the Bulldogs of Brunswick County on Senior Night. All seniors started in the game and made great contributions throughout. The Statesmen got on the board in the second inning, posting 10 runs off of a couple walks, one single from Luke Skelton, two doubles by Brayson Arrington & Kevin Eames, and a home run by Junior Powell. Randolph-Henry would cruise to a 18-0 victory over Brunswick as a result. Brayson Arrington got the win, giving up no hits and collecting five strikeouts. Kevin Eames then closed things out, only surrendering one hit and recording one strikeout.

A few days later, the Statesmen went on the road to Cumberland County, facing the Dukes on Thursday, May 11. Camden Tucker would get the start on the mound for the Statesmen. The big righty would throw four innings, striking out four batters. The Statesmen offense got things going in the top of the third. With two outs, Ben Gibbs singled, followed by a Lucas Skelton double to make it 1-0. Daniel Powell would step up to the plate next and single, scoring Skelton. Lastly, Zack Hudson would also single, driving in the third run of the inning.

The following inning, the Statesmen scored eight more runs from one walk, one error, four singles, and a home run by Jayden Gee. They would take a commanding 11-0 lead after 4 innings. The Statesmen would use some situational hitting in the top of the fifth to score two more runs off of two sacrifice flies. Cumberland got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs, but they just couldn’t catch up. The game would end in the sixth inning as the Statesmen would score two more runs in the top of the sixth and Cumberland would not answer in the bottom of the sixth.
