After starting the baseball season with a pair of wins over Mecklenburg County, Randolph-Henry went on the road to take on the Heritage High Pioneers.

On Tuesday, March 21, the Statesmen got things going early with five hits in a row. Ben Gibbs, Lucas Skelton, and Jayden Gee all singled. Daniel Powell and Jayden Gee both doubled in the 1st.

The Statesmen would score five runs altogether. Ben Gibbs would get the start on the mound and would throw four scoreless innings only giving up one hit and striking out 8. The Statesmen would add a run in the second inning after Ben Gibbs would reach second base on an error followed by a single from Daniel Powell. All zeros would remain on the scoreboard until the top of the 5th as the Statesmen would add a run after a single by Camden Tucker, and two walks by Andru Lee and Ben Gibbs.

This would load the bases for Daniel Powell and he would deliver another single to make the score 8-0. Kevin Eames would come in to pitch the fifth and sixth innings. He would give up two runs off of five hits while striking out two. After the sixth inning, the score would be 9-2 with Randolph-Henry still leading. The Statesmen would add two more runs in the top of the seventh. Ben Gibbs and Jayden Gee would walk. Lucas Skelton would double to score Gibbs and Brayson Arrington would hit a sacrifice fly to score Gee. Camden Tucker would pitch in the bottom of the 7th to close the game out for the Statesmen. The Statesmen would win by a score of 11-2.

On Thursday, March 23 the Statesmen traveled to Appomattox County to face off with the defending 2A State Champions. Runs would come at a premium in this game. Things would start for Appomattox in the bottom of the second when back-to-back doubles from Sisk and Davis would allow Appomattox to take a 1-0 lead. Things would remain quiet until the bottom of the third inning when Shrock walks, then Davis would be hit by a pitch, and Caruso would double, scoring both Shrock & Davis. Appomattox would take a 3-0 lead over the Statesmen. Lucas Skelton would go the distance on the mound for the Statesmen going all 7 innings on 78 pitches. The Statesmen would score one run in the sixth inning but wouldn’t be enough as the Raiders would top the Statesmen with a final score of 3-1.
