The WordHere we are! Spring is here and the hummingbirds are on their way! Bird lovers wait in anticipation for their arrival and hope that the birds will choose to use their feeders and live in their area. However, there are times when I get more than anticipated- sometimes I get anxious in life. Being anxious is different than anticipation. Anticipation should be exciting. While anxiousness is not positive at all- it means I am worried.

The Word says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6) This really tags along with that James passage we looked at, “Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

Having Covid twice is nothing to brag about, but there are side effects that can come along with it. One of those side effects that I experienced was hair loss. I was losing gobs of hair at a time. It bothered me. I was anxious and upset. I had never lost hair before. Not to mention, I like long hair. The second time, my perspective was very different. I said to myself, “Well, this belongs to God so rather I keep it or lose it – it belongs to him.” I did not worry. I was not focused on it.

So, how do we deal with being anxious? Paul explains “in every situation,” in all things pray, ask, and give thanks to God. My style of prayer is plain, examples:

Lord, you see I am losing hair. I do not like losing my hair. In fact Your Word says that my hair is my “crown and glory”. If you see fit, I would like to keep it. Thank you for your consideration. I love you!

God, I love you today and I thank you for being my provider. You see that my car needs to be fixed and money is tight. I need my car to go to work. I do not have the money to fix it so if you could help me it would be so appreciated. Thank you for helping me!

God desires for Christ Followers to love him. He already knows our troubles and needs but loves for us to share our lives with him. Let us include him in our day to day life (even in our troubles).
