State Police say charges are pending after Kings Highway crash

One person is dead and another was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, after a crash on Route 360. Now Virginia State Police officials say charges are pending in the case. 

The incident happened Saturday, March 11. At 5:31 a.m. on Saturday, State Police troopers responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash on Route 360. This happened a half-mile west of Route 812. According to State Police officials, a 2020 Toyota Corolla was going east in the westbound lanes on Route 360 when the vehicle struck a 2022 Toyota Corolla headed in the other direction. 

State Police officials identified the driver of the 2022 Corolla as 61-year-old Akilimali Balagizi of Oxon Hill, Maryland. He died at the scene. 

The other driver was identified as 25-year-old Sarah D. McCorkle of Creedmoor, North Carolina. She was transported to the hospital, and she continues to be treated for serious injuries.

State Police officials say the crash remains under investigation.
