the wordBy now you have celebrated your loved ones through sharing Valentine cards, maybe some candy, roses, or a singing gram…and my favorite of course is a nice meal! It is amazing how we take the time out to celebrate others and let them know how much we love them at least once a year! However, as Christ followers, our time of sharing love is not limited.

My love for music woos me in my heart to God and O, how I love him more and more each day! Phil Wickham has an album called Divine Romance. The featured song has lyrics that no one can write without truly knowing God and being known by him: “The fullness of Your grace is here with me. The richness of Your beauty’s all I see. The brightness of Your glory has arrived. In Your presence, God I’m completely satisfied.” This song speaks of great trust in the Lord and having a great relationship one with the other.

The Word tells us, “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” (1 John 3:1) A great celebration we must all have to be known by God has His children. He calls us His own. The last part of the verse is a sharp vision to see that the world needs God.

As a child of God, we must share what we know and have with others. When we see the world through “lost eyes’’ how can we not be beckoned to share the love of God with others? Jesus said that it was God’s desire that none should perish. He even demonstrated this as he left the ninety-nine and went after the one. If we are to be imitators of Christ and Christ did the will of his father, then we too as God’s children must lavish his love on others too. There is no limit to sharing the love of God. God gave everything for us and therefore, we must do the will of our Father.

As we think about Valentines and as we continue to love those that are easy to love, let us be mindful of all that God has done so that we might be better at reaching those who need God. His love has no limits, “that none should perish.” May we ask God to help us to love even as, “Christ laid his life down for us” without limits.
