Army veteran opens new restaurant in Wylliesburg

WYLLIESBURG – After spending more than 24 years serving her country in the Army, Amanda Redmond is now serving up home cooked meals at her new restaurant in Wylliesburg.

Redmond opened Tobacco Hill Grill last month in the same building where she use to work at as a teenager.

“I worked here as a teenager for a few years before joining the Army and I truly enjoyed it!,” Remond said. “I enjoyed cooking, and interacting with people.”

Over the years the building located at 2300 Barnesville Hwy, Wylliesburg, has seen its share of restaurants come and go but for Redmond she knew this was the place she needed to open her restaurant at that providing a restaurant in an area that is very limited in places to eat was needed.

The name of her new restaurant came to her one day while she was remodeling the building and she was watching some local farmers go by on their tractors and hauling tobacco down the road after pulling it. “I had several names I had come up with, but Tobacco Hill Grill just came to me that day and it stuck.”

Redmond said the building had been sitting empty for a couple of years so it took her a little over two months to remodel the building, clean, and build her tables and booths inside.

“I bought the hardwood for the benches from Grayson Reid in Red Oak, who owns his own sawmill and all of the wood used for the tables came from a pile of old fences I bought off Facebook Marketplace for $100. I then built the tables and poured epoxy.” she said.

Redmond says Tobacco Hill Grill will be known as a diner specializing in home cooked meals with a full breakfast menu, served all day and daily lunch specials.

So what does Redmond serve up at Tobacco Hill Grill?

“Good home cooked meals like grandma used to make,” she said. “Real mashed taters that I peeled not dumped out a box, pork chops, sausage gravy, homemade pies and lots more. My burgers are pretty amazing as well.

The food may be top notch but Redmond want those who enter her restaurant to know,

“You’ll always feel welcomed here, and will leave with a full belly.”
