Archie “Thomas” Toombs, 88 of Red Oak, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at his home with family by his side. He was born June 4, 1934 in Red Oak and was the son of the late Marilla and Mae Fannie Toombs.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Lacks, Doris Owen and Grace Conner and three brothers, James “JW” Toombs, Melvin Toombs and Marvin Guthrie.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 59 years and 10 months, Charlotte Jones Toombs; daughters, Jeanette Ponton (Lee), Faye Weston (Danny) and Ann Marie Coghill (Craig); grandchildren, Thomas Williams (Amanda), Cindell Ponton, Casey Ponce (Troy), Curtis Weston, Travis Weston, Jason Weston, Eric Weston and Paden Coghill and great-grandchildren, Cadence Williams, Wyatt Williams, Gabriel Ponce, Declan Ponce and Everleigh Ponce. He is also survived by his sisters, Lillie Mae Tatum and Lois Mull; brothers, Wesley Toombs and Garland Toombs and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Toombs was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and a United States Army Veteran.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, 6700 Barnesville Hwy, Red Oak. Interment with Military Honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post 43 followed in the church cemetery. Pastor Mike Bowen officiated. Following the service, the family received friends in the church’s fellowship hall.
