The MacCallum More Museum and Gardens will hold the 2022 Juried Art Show reception on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 3-5 p.m. in the Samurai Gallery of the MacCallum More Museum. Juror Alexis Shockley has chosen 44 works of art from 28 artists and the quality is outstanding. The show accepts entries of two-dimensional original work including photography.

Shockley is well qualified as juror. She is the Arts Coordinator for the Arts in Healthcare program at VCU Health in Richmond. She has the pleasure of working directly with patients during their time at the downtown location at VCU Health, the Massey Cancer Center and Children’s Hospital of Richmond. Shockley designs projects that will relieve their anxiety and stress, giving them a say in this one capacity of care, while offering them the simple pleasure of company and conversation.

She also maintains the health systems 3,000+ fine art collection, while curating and installing new works throughout the 38 VCU Health buildings, upholding the healing environment. Her most current project was selecting and installing over 1500 pieces in the new Adult Outpatient Pavilion in Richmond that opened in December 2021. Her current project is allocating artwork for the new Wonder Tower at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, opening Spring 2023. Shockley holds a Master of Fine Arts in painting and a Marketing Minor from Radford University and has a wide array of art experience.

Cash prizes will be awarded at 3:30 p.m. with first place receiving $600; second place $400; and third place $200. In addition, Shockley may award, at her discretion, a $100 Juror’s Impact Award and up to four Honorable Mentions at $50 each. Competition for prizes will be stiff and it is always exciting when the awards are announced, starting with honorable mention, and working up to the first-place winner. Weather permitting, the awards announcement will be made from the front steps of the Museum and refreshments will be served in the beautiful MacCallum More Gardens. The reception is free and open to the public.
