Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Volunteers are always needed and appreciated at Charlotte Learning Center (CLC). Donate your time and effort and reap the rewards that come from assisting others reaching for their goals toward a better life. Volunteer to help with odd jobs around the center or as a tutor.

Interested in joining the rewarding life of a tutor? Friday, Sept. 9 and Saturday, Sept. 10, mark the next two-day training workshop, free of charge. This workshop covers the basics involved in tutoring adults, how this differs from tutoring children, and will provide strategies and resources for whatever level of involvement you would choose. Sessions will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and again from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Space is limited so register in advance by calling CLC at (434) 542-5782.

In the meantime, several students are looking to improve their reading and writing skills. Since we lack tutors enough to accommodate the students, we will begin group classes in September with project-based classes intended to assist individuals with their various goals.

On Tuesdays from noon to 1:30 p.m., we will offer class with a focus on writing. On Thursdays from noon to 1:30 p.m. we will offer class with a focus on reading.

On Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 3 to 4 p.m. we will offer English Language Learner classes for students wishing to improve their English language skills. CLC congratulates one of our ELL students for getting his citizenship finalized.

Education is the focus of many this time of year. The heat of summer is taking a break. But things at CLC are picking up.
