Betty Ann Newton Griles, 86 of Randolph, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 12. She was born Dec. 9, 1935 in Mecklenburg County and was the daughter of the late Clifton Newton and the late Nellie Gillispie Newton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Rudolph Griles.

Betty is survived by her children, James Michael Griles, Larry Griles (Sylvia), Carole Freeman (Bob), Bethany Griles Bergin (Shane) and Jamie Griles (Shelly); grandchildren, Angela Kerrick, Mikki Icenhour (Jay), Brandy Hatcher (Mark), Josh Griles (Chrisie), Tyler Griles (Cassidy), Megan Myers (Timmy), Jeremy Bumgarner, Lillian Bergin, Emmett Bergin, Finn Bergin and Ronan Bergin; fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her friend and caregiver, Hazel Mosley.

Betty was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She adored her family and enjoyed hosting large gatherings to entertain. Betty’s favorite pastimes were scrapbooking, going to Wal-Mart and caring for her many cats. She had a quick smile and an infectious laugh. Betty brought joy to the lives of those that were fortunate enough to know her. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 15, at Public Fork Christian Church Cemetery. The family received family and friends at the home of Larry Griles on Sunday, Aug. 14, from 3 until 6 p.m.
