Thompson Insurance Agency Inc. in Keysville is celebrating its 100th anniversary and will hold a celebration event on Aug. 19, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. which will include refreshments.

Thompson Insurance Agency Inc. was started by Luetta J. Thompson in 1922 – who was a trendsetter back then with the first business working out of her home, as many of us are doing now since COVID-19. She later moved her office downtown to 114 King Street as an Independent Insurance Agency.

In 1952, her son Alvis W. Thompson, came back to Keysville to work at Thompson Insurance. Prior to moving back home, Alvis served in the army during WWII and worked in the insurance industry in both New York and Washington, D.C. Luetta and Alvis worked side by side for several years. They sold crop insurance to many tobacco farmers in their day.

In 1981, Peggy W. Agee joined the office as a licensed agent and has worked in the office ever since. Agee is a loyal employee and part owner of Thompson Insurance Agency Inc.

Merrianne Thompson Dixon joined her father, Alvis and Peggy in the agency as a licensed agent in 1987. The three of them worked together for many years before Alvis’ death in Aug. 1995.

Agee and Dixon continue working together at the agency today. Things have changed in our town over the years, but the business’ slogan “Serves you first” remains true.
