Many times, people are confused or not clear on how the Lord operates. It is quite easy in our humanness to get caught up with someone who is charismatic. We like a show, we like to have our senses tickled. We are drawn to the sparkle and the pazazz. We like looking at pretty things and pretty people. For example, look at the Hollywood red carpet events and the famous, talented, and pretty are highlighted. However, this type of beauty fades. The reality is that these people are not truly known and overtime they will fade from the spotlight. The Word says, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.” (1 Peter 1:24-25)

Sometimes as Christ Followers, we treat Jesus just this way. We decide to follow Christ and then as life begins to press in our choice begins to diminish. It is not that Christ, in all his glory has somehow faded. It is because we have stopped choosing Him. Our attention is no longer on Christ, but on other things. Yes, it could be something terrible that has our attention: a death, a loss, a relationship, a business, our health, our family, or our job. Yes, it could be something incredible: our family, our children, our promotion, our success, our healing, our new things. However, Christ has not left us, but we have changed our: view, perspective, commitment… It is important that we always see Jesus for who He truly is.

Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

I would encourage you this week if your faith were fading. Re-position yourself! Yes, life can be hard, but we are not going through it alone. Joshua 1:9 advises, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” If you are fortunate and God has abundantly blessed then do not let it be the distraction but recognize that God is the blesser! “…the Lord remains forever.”
