The Central Virginia Farm Tour will be held June 26, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

This is the second year and 10 local farms in the area will be open to the public to raise awareness for local agriculture and agritourism.

The farm tour is a great opportunity for kids, foodies,locavores, gardeners, new or aspiring farmers, locals, and visitors to connect with area farmers and gain a better understanding of what it takes to produce vegetables, fruits, meats, flowers, local foods, herbs, and value-added products that we all enjoy purchasing at local farmers’ markets.

The farms this year are in Appomattox, Charlotte, and Campbell counties. In Appomattox County, farms include Rosefield Farm and Flowers, Rockin R Ranch, Evergreen Lavender Farm, Windy Lane Farm, and Wilt Family Farm. Charlotte County farms include Archlynn Farm and Pamplin Poultry. In Campbell County, farms include Allgood’s Farm, Seeds of Faith Farm, and the National Center for Healthy Veterans (NCHV) at Valor Farm.

It would be a challenge to go to all of the farms between 1 and 6, so pick the ones that interest you the most

Please don’t arrive before or after tour hours. The event is rain or shine, so be prepared for the weather and wear appropriate clothes and shoes. Some farms have more hands-on experiences than others.

While the farm team at each site will be around to answer questions and discuss their production methods, most farm visits will be self-guided. This allows you to move at your own pace and to truly “stop and smell the flowers”. This is a great opportunity to buy fresh food and farm products, so bring a cooler to stock up. Hang tags can be purchased for $10, cash or check, prior to the tour at the following farms:

Pamplin Poultry, Rosefield Farm and Flowers, Seeds of Faith Farm, or Wilt Family Farm or at the Appomattox and Charlotte Court House Extension Offices. Hang tags can be purchased the day of the tour at all of the farms. One hangtag gets anyone in your car into all the farms, so cram your car full of folks and head out for some farm-fresh fun.
